As-salamu `alaykum. Islam preaches that a woman must ensure that her husband does not go to sleep in anger. Is the ruling the same if a woman is angry?

Answer

Wa `alaykum as-salamu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear sister, we would like to thank you for your question that shows your interest in the rulings and ethics of Islam. May Allah enlighten our hearts with the light of Islam!

Islam maintains equal rights for men and women, and husbands and wives. So, husbands, as well as wives, are ordained to consider each other's rights.

In his response to your question, Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and an Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states,

All Islamic rules of ethics, morality, etc., are applicable generally to males and females without distinction unless otherwise specified. So, there is no reason to think that this issue is an exception.

A wife has every right to be gained satisfaction and receive respect even as she is supposed to give it to her spouse. Allah has already stated unequivocally that the purpose of marriage is tranquility and peace based on mutual affection and love.

How can we expect tranquility unless love and affection are reciprocated? It is therefore only reasonable to conclude from this that a wife has the same right as her husband to be pleased.

Allah Almighty knows best.
