Leaving thoughts of exacting retribution and hatred behind

Kindness begets kindness, was the moral of their teaching

Divine inspiration its base and not mere layman preaching

Due to kindness from our parents did our world not fall apart

Lest we deny they forbade that misfortune touch our heart

They clothed us, and fed us with no selfish thought in mind

A mere look of selfless love from them is so hard to define

When in my wee years at school the bully had done me wrong

The teacher out of her wisdom had instructed me to be strong

To each harsh word insult or mockery had I looked the other way

Turning a foe into a friend who had not known what to say

No reprieve as life moved on and my college woes began

Peer envy at its peak and compassion not known to man

Thence had I stood my ground holding my head up high

Overlooking is overcoming my motto they dared not deny

Yet our eyes had met warmly rendering it not a mere fling

Had we committed to an eternity of life’s ups and downs

Whereby my tender gaze devoured her deepest frown
