CAIRO – Egyptians are voting to elect a new parliament in their first general elections since the overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak earlier this year.
Watched closely by the world, the elections are expected to see the rise of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood, which is contesting the vote under the banner of its political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party.
The new parliament will be assigned with electing a new assembly, which will write the country’s new constitution.
