Aerospace Scholarship for Malaysia Qur’an Huffaz

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s aspirant aerospace students have been offered a golden chance to get a scholarship abroad to study the important subject if they managed to memorize the 30 chapters of the Noble Qur’an.

“This program is a pilot project to produce Muslim scientists in aerospace which is currently dominated by the West,” Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman, from Terengganu state government, told Bernama news agency on Monday, June 2.

“The missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 shows that we are short of experts in this field and have to rely on expertise from Western countries,” he said after closing the Aerospace Carnival and Kite Competition 2014, in Kuala Terengganu today.

Last March, Malaysia faced a catastrophe after flight MH370, carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew, went missing en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

After months of search, the debris of the flights were not found, leaving a big question mark surrounding its destiny.

The flight problems showed a dire need for a Malaysia aerospace scientist program.

Therefore, the new pilot program was suggested to give each student full scholarship with all fees and expenses borne by the state if they memorized the Qur’an.

For the eastern coastal state’s government, the program offered an opportunity to produce Muslim aerospace scientists and focus on studying the Qur’an as there are still many secrets in the holy book.

After graduation, those students will serve the Terengganu Science and Creativity Centre (PSKT) for several years.

Ahmad Razif said it is collaborating with University Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) to prepare a working paper to identify suitable universities abroad.

“I have asked UMT to prepare a working paper on the cost and list suitable universities including from China, Russia and the United States as they are advanced in aerospace.

“Coincidently, this year UMT has signed an expert in aerospace from the United States. I will appoint him to be adviser to PSKT,” he added.

Malaysia has a population of nearly 26 millions, with Malays, mostly Muslims, making up nearly 60 percent.

Teaching children the glorious Qur'an and the Islamic principles is the responsibility of their parents from an early age which is the best period for implanting Islamic ethics.

Memorizing the Holy Qur’an is one of the most important ways to preserve Allah’s message.

The others are to publish and distribute the book, or the text on the Internet and to recite the parts that one knows to other people.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) said: “The best amongst you is the one who learns the Qur'an and teaches it.”
