PARIS – Hundreds of France's Muslims have joined mass protests against the legalization of gay marriage and gender equality teaching in schools considering it a “violation” of traditional family values.
“I am opposed to gender theory lessons in schools, I am opposed to same-sex marriage,” Najib Guarraz, a father who participated in Sunday's protests, told France 24 on Sunday, February 2.
“We are in the process of destroying the fundamentals of French life,” he added.

The controversy erupted after gender theory, which promotes same-sex, was included in school education stirring fierce criticism by France's conservative and right-wing groups.
Parents too have criticized the new subject, banning their children from attending class for one day each month to protest against what they called an attempt to teach pupils that “they aren't born boys or girls, but neutral.”
Sunday's protests in Paris and Lyon were attended by tens of thousands of supporters of “Manif pour Tous” MPT or “Protest for Everyone” movement along with hundreds of Muslims.
“The state has no business lecturing children on subjects as private as sexual identity or of imposing adult preoccupations on young children,” said MPT leader, Ludivine de la Rochère.
Blaming left-wing government for causing “family-phobia”, protesters chanted against sex equality lessons in schools as well as a draft law that allows same-sex gay couples to have children through medically assisted reproduction.
France is home to a Muslim minority of six million, Europe's largest.
Despite fierce opposition and mass protest across the southern European country, President Francoise Hollande signed the controversial marriage bill into law in May 2013.
After the legislation, France became the 14th country in the world to allow gay marriage.
It is already allowed in Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, and Sweden.
Marching in the protests, Guarraz, a 54-year-old father of two was holding a huge banner which read, in both Arabic and English: “French Muslims opposed to same-sex marriage.”
“Gender theory will screw up our children. They are telling them that ‘maybe you are a boy but you also have a bit of girl in you, and it’s up to you to choose your sex,” Gurraz said.
“It’s not on. Adults are screwing with children’s heads and teachers are being trained to poison their minds. I cannot accept it.”
The latest controversy has drawn more Muslim member to the conservative MPT movement, due to its traditional definition of the family, according to Samir Driss, of the Muslims for Childhood group.
“Education should be about teaching children skills so that they can get jobs,” Driss argued.
“Sex education is not going to get them into work. Sexuality is a subject that I will raise in front of my children when I see fit.
“I don’t want my children to go to school to learn about touching each other.”
Same-sex relationship and marriage are totally prohibited in Islam, Christianity and all divine religions.
Islam teaches that believers should neither do the obscene acts, nor in any way indulge in their propagation.
The Catholic Church teaches that homosexuality is not a sin, but considers homosexual intercourse as sinful.
